Image information

Description

This Ceratotheca triloba flower shows the fine, white hairiness upon the outer surface of the corolla tube, as well as the dark lines on the inner surface of the lower lip. The flower may be from 4 cm to 7 cm long, the tube slightly up-curved above this lower corolla lip. These flowers are visited by carpenter bees and honey bees.

The stem in picture appears very woody for an herbaceous plant that may live for only one or a few growing seasons. Several colours are present on stems of different ages in the photo (Manning, 2009; Pooley 1998).
