Image information

Description

Some green fruit of Scadoxus multiflorus subsp. katharinae remain in picture upon what was earlier the flower umbel. The green berries in picture will turn scarlet when ripe, remaining on the plant for up to two months. Every year's harvest reflects the vicissitudes of the season in the plant's life.

The photo was taken in Kirstenbosch at the end of April (Duncan, 2010; www.plantzafrica.com; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
