Cineraria lobata is a sprawling or erect, sometimes cobwebby and very variable perennial reaching heights around 60 cm.
The species distribution is widespread in the Eastern Cape, also found in the Western Cape, the Northern Cape, Limpopo and in Lesotho. The photo was taken at Salmonsdam Nature Reserve during November.
The habitat is variable scrub and fynbos on damp, often south-facing slopes and along watercourses, also on rocky outcrops, sometimes in shale. Two of the subspecies are not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century, a third deemed rare and the fourth near threatened (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Manning, 2007; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
