Flower colour seems to be quite variable in Hermannia cernua; red or pinkish red as seen on this plant of the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden. There are also cream coloured ones in the Hantam and Bokkeveld regions, white and blue ones grow in the Great Karoo.
The petals flare on the nodding flowers that grow solitary or in pairs on long, axillary pedicels, in picture dark red and hairy.
Flowering occurs mostly in spring (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997).
