Eulophia zeyheriana is a slender perennial, a cormous terrestrial orchid that grows a loose flower spike of 70 cm by summer. It is found in montane grassland at medium to high altitudes in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. The distribution also reaches into the eastern parts of Lesotho and the west of Swaziland.
The plant has narrow, linear, channelled leaves. They are deciduous, as are all the above-ground plant parts. The leaves reach the same length as the scape, about 30 cm in height.
There is also a species called E. zeyheri found in South Africa that has a wider distribution, extending to Nigeria and Sudan (Manning, 2009; Wikipedia; JSTOR).
