Description

The ripe Phylica rigidifolia fruit capsule in picture is ready to split along its segment seams for releasing the three seeds inside. The white surface bits may be the broken calyx persisting or some alien substance that impacted upon the fruit.

Buds that may still develop and some aborted flowers are present on the stem-tips above the leaves.

The ascending leaves are thick and sausage-like but for the slit below, showing how far the rolled under margins reached, not quite touching (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
