Edmondia sesamoides, commonly known in Afrikaans as the sewejaartjie (little seven year), is a shrublet growing few erect, slender stems to heights around 30 cm. The stems are white with a fine woolly covering and narrow green leaves that cling to the stem surface.
The stems are tipped in spring and early summer with "everlasting" type papery flowerheads.
The disc florets are yellow within an enclosing involucre consisting of several rows of papery bracts that may be white, yellow or pink.
The species distribution is in the Western Cape from the Cederberg to Mossel Bay.
The habitat is variable fynbos on rocky and sandy slopes and flats. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century.
The genus Edmondia in the Asteraceae family consists of only three species, all endemic to the fynbos ecoregion (Marais, (Ed.), 2017; Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Wikipedia; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
