Brillantaisia cicatricosa is a large long-flowering shrub, about 1,5 m tall and quite wide. This is not an indigenous South African plant.
It is not a salvia as looks and one of the plant’s common names, giant sage, suggest. The plant belongs to the Acanthaceae or Acanthus family, one of the about 2500 of them! Sages and salvias form part of a different, the Lamiaceae or mint family.
The species is found in the African tropics (Wikipedia; www.igarden.com.au).
