Image information

Description

A dead branch of past Codon royenii flowers morphs into cave-like living quarters for insects with bodies fitting the scale of the chambers.

The openings facing the sky are not quite what earns the estate agent most commission, but rain is not such a concern in these arid parts.

It might be presented as a saleable feature of running water occasionally delivered inside the room. Insect clientele would be none the wiser, reacting as if State capture is business as usual.

Spines and desiccated calyx and bract tissue are by now almost equally off-white (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; http://pza.sanbi.org).
