Image information

Description

The small, sessile fruits of Suaeda fruticosa are nearly globose, in picture fleshy, vertically segmented and black-tipped. The photo was taken in October.

The older stem in picture bears fruit near its tip, the younger one displays clusters of short, new leaves growing from the axils. The reddish stem colouring is not always present from the start, the stem-tips initially leaf-coloured or paler (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; http://temperate.theferns.info).
