Nivenia binata, sometimes commonly called the Swartberg bushiris and in Afrikaans the bergbloublom (moutain blue flower), is an evergreen shrublet grown from a woody, underground rootstock to heights around 45 cm.

The species distribution in the Western Cape is in the Swartberg Mountains, from north of Ladismith to northeast of Oudtshoorn, possibly also in the Kammanassie Mountains.

The habitat is rocky outcrops on southern slopes in montane fynbos, also where it snows in winter. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
