Description

Amellus asteroides, sometimes called purple daisy or in Afrikaans grysastertjie (little grey aster), is a shrublet that grows to heights from 20 cm to 40 cm.

It is found on coastal dunes in the southwestern Cape from Clanwilliam to Bredasdorp. This plant is not considered to be threatened early in the twenty first century.

Plants of the Amellus genus, comprising 12 species, are easy to recognise as members of the Asteraceae family (Manning, 2007; iSpot; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
