In this disintegrated Protea repens flowerhead what remains of the involucre is spreading widely. The inner surfaces of the innermost bracts are reddish brown, the blades straight and curving inwards along their margins.
In the centre of the head a tangled mass of collapsed style remains and perianth sections persists. Some long brown hairs cover the tiny nutlets containing the seeds that may grow when embedded in moist soil.
These fruits are still mostly attached to the long styles that linked the stigmas to the ovaries (Rourke, 1980).
