The bergstompie (Afrikaans) as Brunia paleacea, previously Nebelia paleacea is commonly known, branches much. It reaches heights around 80 cm. Flowering occurs from October to February. The specific epithet, paleacea, refers to the scale-like bracts on the flowerheads.
B. paleacea is found from Clanwilliam to George in fynbos near sea level to halfway up the sandstone slopes of this area (Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; www.fernkloof.com).
