Image information

Description

The dorsal sepal of this Ansellia africana flower opposing the lip is free from maroon or red-brown spots. The pair of lateral sepals has few spots and the lateral petal pair has many. The lip is brighter yellow than the other tepals, here curved like a lapping tongue. The gynostemium above its back end is pale.

Hawk moths pollinate the very sweetly scented flowers at night (Pooley, 1998; Onderstall, 1984; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; http://pza.sanbi.org).
