Description

If our environment shapes us, what are the special attributes inculcated in Namaqualand people by their flowers and harsh climate? Some special veld knowledge and views of life may be detected. A salt of the earth directness maybe. And language that has unique dialectic beauty brought about by (some) isolation from standardising formative influence.

During your next flower viewing visit to Namaqualand, take the time to speak to some local residents. It is much cheaper than going to Europe. And may be as memorable.

It raises the question of what forces have lately been shaping one's own psyche. For change it will, whether one realises it and works on it or not. If utter, dependable constancy of mind could be found, it would be in the absence of it.
