Description

The thinly succulent leaves of Apatesia helianthoides are opposite and decussate, spaced on reddish or creamy stems.

The blades are obovate and flat or curved on petioles (stalks) that dilate at the base like spreading sheaths. Leaf colour is here pale green; it may also be glaucous or blue-green and sometimes tinged red. Leaves are about 3 cm to 4 cm long.

Tiny wax flakes are present on the leaf skins. Some leaf midrib prominence is in evidence in the photo (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Smith, et al, 1998; Eliovson, 1990; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist).
