Image information

Description

The flowers of Commelina benghalensis grow in few-flowered, terminal cymes. At the base of the lower flower in picture the hairy green tip of the leaf-like, boat-shaped spathe is visible. There is such a spathe subtending each inflorescence.

Seen from the back of the flower, the shiny, white-grey sepals are small but eye-catching. Two of them are identical, the third pointed rather than rounded and smaller (Pooley, 1998; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Bean and Johns, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
