Image information

Description

Dyerophytum africanum flowers arranged in terminal spikes have unusually shaped calyces. More colourful and conspicuous than the corollas, they are reddish to yellow and papery. The five transversally wrinkled sepals have central ridges or wings and terminal teeth.

The corolla is pale yellow or cream, some red on the outside of its funnel-shape. The petals have three tips each, the middle one longer and spiky, the others rounded.

The broadly spoon-shaped leaves are pale grey-green and sparsely present (Williamson, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist; http://gadi.agric.za).
