Image information

Description

The fluted calyces of this Diospyros whyteana plant, closed with pointed tips around the ripening fruits, form inflated bladders-like structures around the fruits. Rough-surfaced and slightly crumpled, the fruits are paler green than the dark, glossy leaves.

The leaves appear narrower and more pointy than often seen. The leaf midribs are conspicuous though sunken (Schmidt, et al, 2002).
