Diospyros glabra, commonly the fynbos star-apple, is a shrub or small, evergreen tree occasionally reaching heights around 5 m (SA Tree List No. 603.1).
The reddish colour of the new branchlets can be seen in the picture. Older bark is dark grey and mottled.
The leaves are spirally arranged, small and elliptic. Leaf colour is dark green above, paler below. Both surfaces are glossy, the texture leathery.
The species distribution is in the Western Cape and slightly into the southwest of the Northern Cape near Nieuwoudtville.
The habitat is sandy fynbos flats, slopes and forest margins. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Venter, 2012; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
