Description

Two clumped plants of Conophytum velutinum subsp. velutinum are captured in this photo. They were seen some distance to the west of Springbok in the Kommaggas area during April. Pink-purplish flowers are present in the normal autumn blooming season.

On the smaller clump the leaf-pairs have just spread laterally in a flat structure. When the plant gets older and bigger, the central leaves become elevated on longer stalks, the lateral ones pointing outwards, resulting in a dome-shape of fairly even regularity (Smith, et al, 1998).
