Image information

Description

The oblong pods of Schotia afra var. afra grow in small clusters. They usually curve sideways. Initially green, they dry out becoming woody. There are notable ridges along the margins and indentations between the seeds inside. The photo was taken in the Addo Elephant National Park.

The rounded seeds are somewhat flattened into a disc shape, pale brown and without arils (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
