This small Pteronia fasciculata plant ensconced in rocky protection may survive veld fires due to the spot where it rooted. Hardship imposed by the environment has kept it small; the event of its first green leaves may lie quite a few years into the past.
This species does not resprout after fire, but has spread widely from seeding and settling vigorously in its arid habitat (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
