Image information

Description

There may be up to twelve flowerheads in the panicle that forms the Othonna macrophylla inflorescence. One sparse whorl of rays spreads around the central disc of numerous male florets of each flowerhead.

The narrowly oblong to lanceolate rays curve back unevenly like insect legs in their repetitive daily reversals of extended and curled-up positions, driven by sunlight (iNaturalist; JSTOR).
