Image information

Description

Fat fingers of succulent substance clutch the drying florets going to seed in a positive sense in this smooth Othonna macrophylla fruit body.

If it were not for the coiled ray remains up top, the white disc florets might make a decent shaving brush in the current stage of their metamorphosis. They are male after all, possibly sympathising with the cause.

The subtle colour changes up the fruit remind of the old-style jukeboxes in eating places of long ago: Insert a coin and play the music of your choice, accompanied by rainbow colours slowly passing through a lit area on the outside of the box.

Waiting for the colour changes on an Othonna fruit may not be so appealing unless one keeps making the music oneself.
