Image information

Description

Separated stem-tips bear leaf clusters and long-stalked inflorescences on this old Othonna lobata plant. The long, woody, grey stems indicate age, while the plant still manages prodigious fruiting.

A season special for setting much seed still needs to be followed by a good rain year and other favourable climatic conditions for a strong cohort of new plants to appear. Some species yield new plants almost annually, while others may skip many years before the next generation arrives (Smith, et al, 2017).
