Nemesia fruticans is a small shrub with erect stems from a woody base growing from a taproot.
Its summer flowers are often mauve, may also be white or pink. A prominent yellow bulge occurs on the lower lip of the corolla.
There are about seventy Nemesia species belonging to this genus. There is a big international trade in nemesias, many enhanced flower cultivars are produced horticulturally. Although this plant is a perennial it is sometimes planted annually (www.plantzafrica.com).
