The ascending leaves of Lobelia pinifolia are needle-like or narrow, up to 2 mm wide and from 1 cm to 2,5 cm long. The margins are smooth, the tips abruptly pointed. Some leaves curve inwards in the upper half.
The flowers are borne on hairless stalks varying in length. Flower colour, mostly blue, may also be purple and occasionally white or pink. The narrow, dark sepals in picture reach about halfway up the corolla tube to where the upper lip bends back (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning, 2007).
