Description

Diosma prama, in Afrikaans commonly known as steenbokboegoe, is an ericoid, single-stemmed shrub that branches and reaches heights around 1,2 m.

The species distribution is in the Little Karoo and to the east in the Baviaanskloof. The plants are commonly found in dry montane fynbos, growing in loam and sandy soils. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century.

The 28 Diosma species all grow in the fynbos. The generic name Diosma is derived from the Greek dio meaning divine and osme meaning smell, referring to the scent of the leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot; www.plantzafrica.com; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
