The stark shape of an erect bract resembling a shark fin conceals the floral beginnings of Colchicum scabromarginatum.
The second, smaller bract opposing the main one ruins the shark-fin analogy. The inflorescence, soon to appear, will do more of that when it forces both bracts outwards to assume centre stage for blooming among bracts in the slightly bashful Colchicum style.
Still, there is graceful balance in this early stage of the mini-monumental design, fit for honouring Lilliputian royalty upon a lavish green carpet (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
