Image information

Description

The petals of the Cheiridopsis denticulata flower grow in more than one whorl around the flower centre, quite unequal in length in the flowers in the photo. Shaped like knitting needles, the angle of the petals is more outward than up in the open flowers.

Daily closure at dusk and reopening around midday are parts of the excitement of Cheiridopsis life, adapted to by the smarter pollinators (Smith, et al, 2017; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
