Image information

Description

The sweetly scented flowers of Adenium multiflorum grow in clusters at branch tips. They have funnel-shaped tubes, up to 5,5 cm long that are velvety on the inside. In the photo the finely hairy and longitudinally lined outer corolla surface are pale pink. The crinkly margins of the spreading petal lobes are dark pink or crimson around the white central parts. These lobes are acutely pointed. Flowers may be up to 7 cm in diameter. The tube is white inside with dark red lines stopping in the mouth.

A pure white flowering form is sometimes seen. Brush-like white stamens are straight and close together, exserted above the flower centre. Short, pointed calyx lobes are visible around the base of the corolla tube. Several flowers are present at this stem tip, densely clustered on short or nearly no stalks (Manning, 2009; www.plantzafrica.com).
