The sosatiebos (Afrikaans), as Crassula rupestris is commonly known, is one of the well-known and admired succulent shrubs of South Africa. Its distribution, from Namibia southwards across the Richtersveld to the Worcester Karoo and also in a more easterly direction past the Little Karoo into the Baviaanskloof, makes it accessible in veld visited by many people.
Sosatiebos can be grown without difficulty from small cuttings. Sandy soil, full sun and limited watering will do. Whatever moisture it gets in nature comes mainly in winter.
