Description

The Bowiea volubilis subsp. volubilis green fruits can be recognised as the distended ovaries assuming fruit proportions.

The ovoid shapes turn brown and become slightly more three-angled when the capsules are fully developed. The valves extend to the style base. There may be a small horn above the middle of each valve on the fruit surface. The fruit becomes about 2,5 cm long, the ripe capsule will dehisce, releasing a few flattened, shiny, black seeds (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Pooley, 1998).
