Description

The flower tube of Syringodea longituba is about 3 cm long. It links the elevated, spreading tepal lobes, the visible flower, to the underground ovary in this stemless plant.

Once fertilisation of the flower has occurred, the ripening fruit or ovary turning capsule is pushed up, above-ground. This prevents the seed from being set for germinating the new plants all in the same spot as the mother plant.

The three, long, yellow anthers are erect on white filaments, curving in over the style. The white style has three short branches ending in the stigma (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
