Heteromorpha trifoliata, the wild parsley tree, is sometimes seen as the same as Heteromorpha arborescens var. abyssinica. It has variable simple or compound leaves displaying some rather unusual pattern arrangements of the leaflets.
The forms of the tree warranting the H. trifoliata name resemble leaves typical of the Searsia genus, apart from the long petiole. The flowers, fruit and bark present much bigger differences between Heteromorpha and Searsia (Coates Palgrave, 2002; www.plantzafrica.com).
