Lotononis galpinii is a small shrublet growing on rocky outcrops at high altitude, including the Drakensberg and the Malutis of Lesotho. In summer it produces solitary blue flowers with a yellow patch in the centre. The flowers are small, about 1 cm in diameter.
Hiking trips in the veld should not have time schedules that prevent stopping for admiring and studying the flowers. Looking, feeling, smelling and discussing, possibly identifying is a rewarding pastime in nature. Photographing helps to retain the memories. Picking is not as good. Remember Jan Smuts: Stop to worship, then move on!
