Microloma calycinum is a member of the Apocynaceae or milkweed family. It is found in nature in the Richtersveld and Namaqualand. This specimen was photographed near Springbok. It only germinates in winter when rain falls in its natural distribution area. The plant is twiggy with drooping narrow, opposite leaves. The pink or red flowers have long and narrow, pointed petals (Manning, 2009).
